India is a world apart. Colourful saris and poor beggars, meditative silence and disruptive traffic chaos, vibrant liveliness and ordinary transience: it all happens here at the same time. And this for thousands of years. Bezilen leads you on this 18-day journey along the most special spiritual locations in the north of India. The aim of the Spiritual Journey India is to experience the daily experience of spirituality and to make contact with the population, your fellow travellers and with yourself in a simple, loving way. It will be a journey of discovery along beautiful places and people. It is also a journey inward, with a lot of attention for your personal experience.
Introduction
We leave from Schiphol airport for 18 days to North India. Booking the flight is done on your own (or you can book it from Bezielen). From Delhi we travel by train (or we take a flight) to the east, to Benares (Varanasi) and from there in the direction of the Himalayas to Chilianaula and Haidakhan (Herakhan). We end up in Delhi again. See below for the detailed travel program.
The spiritual journey India takes place in this period, when it is pleasant to stay in North India. The rainy season is then behind us and the temperature ranges from 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. The flora is in full bloom, making the surroundings beautifully colorful.
Initial interview
The journey is preceded by an introductory meeting with Natasha Nordin. In this meeting you discuss your background, motivation, wishes and expectations regarding the journey. The meeting is one-on-one, takes about an hour and takes place by appointment. We also advise you to join one of our weekends. This way you can see and experience the Spiritual routine and we can see how you deal with new situations. If all this goes well, you buy a plane ticket and arrange the visa.
On day 1 we leave from Schiphol to Delhi, India. After this we take the train (or flight) to Varanasi. The tour guide will be waiting for us in Delhi.
Varanasi is colorful, rough, hard, dirty and spiritual. We stay five days in this intense city, so that we can really hear, see, smell and feel India. Every day you have the opportunity to participate in yoga and the havan.
Day 2 – 5: Benares

Spiritual journey India: Varanasi (Benares)
After checking in at the hotel, we will take an afternoon walk along the Ganges and the ghats until the Dashashwamedh Ghat. This is the most important and spectacular ghat. After this, we will participate in an aarti, the prayer service in Hinduism in which mantras are chanted and meditation is done, after which we will return to the hotel by rickshaw.
Varanasi is a city of millions on the Ganges and one of the four holy places of pilgrimage in Hinduism. It is also the holiest place for Hindus. Pilgrims from all over India come to this city to take a bath in the Ganges River. One of the Hindu beliefs is that bathing in the Ganges washes away the bad karma from previous lives.
Day 3
We start the day with a boat ride on the Ganges until Manicarnica ghat where we will see the sunrise. Be prepared for the rituals that will take place here by the locals.
After the boat trip we enjoy our delicious Indian breakfast. After this breakfast we visit the Buddhist pilgrimage site Sarnath , the place where Gautama Buddha first proclaimed the dharma, the Buddhist teaching, in the fifth century BC.
After lunch you have free time. In the evening we return to Benares.
Day 4
In the morning we will watch the sunrise together at the Shiva temple on the Ganges, which is a very special experience because of the atmosphere. We will also do a puja (Hindu sacrificial ritual) there.
Sunrise is considered the best time for a bath. Furthermore, Hindus are convinced that whoever dies in Varanasi and is cremated there, is freed from ‘samsara’ (the cycle of birth, death and rebirth). Along the holy river Ganges there are several cremation sites where the bodies are cremated in the open air, on funeral pyres.
If you would like to participate in yoga, you can do so at 6 am.
After breakfast we visit a number of temples. Among others the Hanuman mandir, Kashi Vishvant temple, BHU Benares Hindu university and the Durga temple. After lunch there is time to do something for yourself.
Day 5
After breakfast we visit Ramnagar Fort. After that you have free time.
As for karma, you will have the chance to have a special experience: on the banks of the Ganges we will meet the Vedic astrologer. He can draw up a horoscope based on your date, time and place of birth. Vedic astrology, also called Jyotish (‘science of light’), can help you identify your strengths and challenges, so that you are able to use your full potential as a human being. Read all about Jyotish here .
In the evening we can attend a music concert (optional).
Day 6 – 14: Chilianaula
Preparation in the temple for Shiva day.
On day 6 we leave in the afternoon by train from Varanasi to the city of Bareilly, at the foot of the Himalayas. There we are picked up by the taxi transfer to Chilianaula, a village in the Kumaon region (Uttaranchal), close to the border with Tibet and Nepal. This area is spiritually very interesting and also has numerous beneficial health benefits.
We will be staying there in Ashram Anandapuri right next to Bhole Baba Ayurvedic Hospital and Research Centre, which specializes in holistic treatment through Ayurveda, yoga and meditation. We will undergo a five-day Ayurvedic cleansing there with the group, called panchakarma. This treatment is a special experience with a lot of depth.
The treatment is preceded by a personal intake interview with the doctor of the medical center. In this interview, your Ayurvedic constitution, any complaints or points of attention are determined and which specific approach is suitable for you. The following days are spent with Ayurvedic cleansing, revitalization, massages, herbal baths, yoga and meditation. We conclude this mini-retreat feeling reborn.

Spiritual journey India: shirodhara is treating the head with warm herbal oil, as part of panchakarma
Day 14 – 16: Herakhan
On day 14 we travel by taxi transfer from Chilianaula to Herakhan/Haidakhan: fresh air, clean water, silence. There we find the ashram of Haidakhan Wale Baba at the foot of the Himalayas , a place of truth, simplicity and love. We stay at this special place for three days. You participate in the daily life of the ashram (fire ceremony, aarti, karma yoga), yoga classes and meditation. We take a walk along the river, stay on the bank, climb the mountain Kailash Little.
Living in an ashram also means trying to overcome your ego: we do the work we have to do, whether we feel like it or not. We eat what we are given. We follow the ashram rules. And within these limits you can relax completely – if you open yourself up to it. We will leave the highways of our thoughts and make the brain judgment-free.
“ If you are at peace, I am in peace. If you are troubled, I am troubled. If you have problems, I have problems. There will always be hills and mountains to overcome on the way to God. Do not be disturbed by the mountains falling down. It is the duty of the mountain to fall down and it is the duty of the soldier to move the mountain. You should seek harmony in everything that you do. I am harmony. Thank you for your love.”
Shri Babaji, April 1980
Day 17 – 18: Delhi

Bathing in the Ganges: One of the Hindu beliefs is that bathing in the Ganges washes away the bad karma of previous lives.
After Herakhan we return to Delhi, where we will spend two more days before boarding the plane to the Netherlands. During these two days we will visit the beautiful Sikhi temple in Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, where we can take a look at the Indian kitchen, smell the scents and admire the colours of Chandni Chowk.
We let you taste the hustle and bustle of Delhi while riding around in a rickshaw. This way you don’t have to walk through it, but you do experience this atmosphere.
Day 18: return flight
After breakfast we visit the still unknown Akshardham temple. In the evening we leave from Delhi airport after which we will land again at Schiphol airport.

Spiritual journey India: view of the highest mountain in India from ashram Ananpuri
If you are open to the differences, to a different way of thinking and living and can forget your own way of thinking, then you can connect with this country. Leave your need for comfort at home. If you want to take a shower, there is not always water. And when you have showered and are dry again, you want to shower again. But you have to be frugal with water. Sweating a lot is also a good way of cleaning and sleeping on a very hard mattress is also not bad for the body.
A car ride includes a vibrating massage. When you see how little space people take for themselves – four on a bike, ten in a small car or a hundred in a bus… Be content in the now, this simple yoga wisdom will make your life easier. Practice pratyahara – close your senses and come to yourself. Waiting – you will do this a lot during the Spiritual Journey India. You will learn to have more patience. To take things as they come – and make the best of them.

There is something else beautiful. The Ayurvedic hospital does a lot for the local community. The eye clinic on site specializes in cataract surgery and helps dozens of people with ‘new eyes’ every day. As a participant in the Spiritual Journey India, you automatically contribute to this good cause.
Seeing through yoga is the donation project of Bezielen to support the clinic in its work. With every participant in this trip, an amount is automatically reserved that makes a cataract operation possible: on average, two people can be helped with cataracts per traveler. Since 2013, dozens of people have already been helped!
We further support the clinic through voluntary donations. We undergo a body cleansing ourselves and ensure that all donations end up in the right place. That is how we exchange. Look here for more information, or if you want to contribute.
Read bout ayurveda and health
There are also several books that can help you in the process after the trip (or whenever!).
